The Sun Fire(TM) V60x server and Sun Fire(TM) V65x server are Sun's
next-generation, x86-based, entry-level servers. Capable of running
Standard Linux Distributions or the Solaris(TM) x86 Operating System,
the Sun Fire V60x server and the Sun Fire V65x server are designed for
Tier 0, 1 and 2 applications. These 1U and 2U servers are powerful
additions to the portfolio of Sun products designed for horizontally
scaled compute environments.

With up to two Intel Xeon processors running at 2.8 or 3.06
GHz, the Sun Fire V60x server and Sun Fire V65x server utilize the
latest x86 technology to run and drive Solaris x86-based and
Linux-based applications. Drivers for Standard Linux Distributions
will be introduced over the next few quarters, enabling customers to
choose the OS that best meets their requirements.  A Solaris for x86
Platform "Right-To-Use" license is also included with every machine.
這樣的東西和HP及Dell的PC Server相比怎么樣啊？不知走向何方。

本周一（5月19日），SUN公司宣布了和甲骨文的策略合作，表示將擴(kuò)大并加強(qiáng)與最大數(shù)據(jù)庫(kù)軟件開(kāi)發(fā)商甲骨文之間長(zhǎng)達(dá)20年的合作關(guān)系。同時(shí)升陽(yáng)還表示，將推出兩款使用英特爾微處理器的新型低價(jià)刀鋒服務(wù)器，作為公司為追趕低成本電腦產(chǎn)品潮流而付出努力的一部分。

　　Sun的新服務(wù)器名為Sun Fire V60x和V65x，分別標(biāo)價(jià)2,450和2,650美元。公司董事長(zhǎng)兼首席執(zhí)行長(zhǎng)麥克尼利(Scott McNealy)說(shuō)，它們比IBM <IBM>;或惠普(Hewlett-Packard)<HPQ>;的同等產(chǎn)品便宜約25%，甚至比戴爾電腦(Dell Computer)<DELL>;的價(jià)格還低。戴爾電腦的市場(chǎng)占有率和利潤(rùn)正是建立在低成本、直接配送的商務(wù)模式基礎(chǔ)上。

　　甲骨文為Sun制作的所有軟件都將在Sun所有的電腦平臺(tái)上運(yùn)行，其中包括數(shù)據(jù)庫(kù)軟件，以及自動(dòng)處理財(cái)務(wù)、人力資源、供應(yīng)鏈管理等企業(yè)功能的軟件。

　　Sun還說(shuō)，它已與Unix軟件供應(yīng)商Red Hat達(dá)成協(xié)議，替後者分銷其企業(yè)Linux作業(yè)(操作)系統(tǒng)；而Red Hat反過(guò)來(lái)會(huì)配合自己的Red Hat Linux軟件，分銷Sun的Java Virtual Machine--這是一種允許Java程式(程序)運(yùn)行的軟件工具。

　　惠普則是在一封電子郵件當(dāng)中指出，“SUN的x86策略，聽(tīng)起來(lái)像是為了保住現(xiàn)有Solaris的客戶，不讓他們轉(zhuǎn)投Linux和Windows陣營(yíng)�！薄癝UN很明顯地是想要迎頭趕上。”

　　一般來(lái)說(shuō)，SUN服務(wù)器使用使用的都是自己開(kāi)發(fā)的64位RISC處理器，這比使用英特爾32微處理器的機(jī)器貴一些。但Sun過(guò)去幾個(gè)月來(lái)策略有所轉(zhuǎn)變，比以前更積極地告訴分析師和客戶，它也是一家低成本軟硬件和服務(wù)的供應(yīng)商。
